So I wanted to try something new and I decided to pick up some Cozy mysteries!!
I’ve read mysteries before but not many that are strictly mysteries and I didn’t love them. I struggled to like their either because they were WAY to obvious or WAY too graphic and disgusting. For example descriptively describing rape and sexual abuse. Which I CAN’T handle.
So I wanted to try something new. I got some recommendations from friends and started off with a book that was free of kindle.
So I got Southern Spirits by Angie Fox.
“One simple mistake…
For a girl who is about to lose her family home,
Releases the ghost of a long-dead gangster,
And opens Verity Long’s eyes to a whole new world.
When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.
Ellis Wydell is in possession of a stunning historic property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity to put an end to the disturbances. But soon, Verity learns there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.
There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn’t above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?”
I chose to start off with this cozy mystery because it’s free, my friend recommended it and I enjoy paranormal fantasy books. I was pleasantly surprised when I read it and gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed it. I liked all the characters a lot. They were all quirky but enjoyable. I enjoyed the storyline and how easy and quick the read was. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I did guess the murderer pretty early on. But I liked it enough to read it all the way through and continue the series. I’ve now read the first two novels and two novellas in this series. Every single one I’ve read have been consistently 4star reads! All very quick, easy reads with the same great characters and a slow burn romance. I Love the main characters and that makes me adore this series so far. I already have book 3 ready to read on my kindle. I just really really enjoy being able to fall into these books and how easy they are but still engaging despite me guessing the murderers. These seem perfect for days I just need to read and relax without too much deep thinking but still needing to engaged in the story and enjoying the characters. The characters make these stories far more than anything else. I recommend this series if you like cozy mysteries, paranormal fantasies and slow burn romance books. I didn’t even expect the romance going in but I’m enjoying it. It isn’t overwhelming or too intense. It fits perfectly into this southern town or craziness.
Send me YOUR recommendations for cozy mysteries pretty please!! I’d love to know your favorites!!
