The Rise of Winter by Alex Lyttle

GUYS!! I love this book.

The rise of Winter by Alex Lyttle out MAY 1st

This is a middle grade book perfect for nature and animal lovers.

Here’s the synopsis

Centuries ago, Terra, the world, was nearly destroyed by humans. In the wake of that destruction, Terra created the Guardians—a group sworn to protect Her. But humans have returned to their plundering ways and Terra needs the Guardians. The Guardians are now fractured, their leader murdered years before. They need a new leader—a new Terra Protectorum—but when a young girl is chosen, outrage ensues. Questions demand answers. Why has Terra selected a girl with no knowledge of the Guardians? Why has she chosen a human when it is the humans destroying the earth? And most importantly, why has she chosen the girl whose father murdered the last Terra Protectorum?

Here’s what I thought-

I loved it. Winter is a young girl raised by her grandmother and knows nothing about Terra or the guardians. I loved watching her learn and grow. She often reminded me of my son, who loves nature and animals with all his heart. He can often be found picking up random pieces of trash and throwing them away because he hates littering. For some the push to take care of the earth may be a little strong handed but I really enjoyed the entire story, the characters and all their unique voices and characteristics. This book also had a few twists that were done well and I didn’t see coming. I feel like I want some bookish stickers for this book of all the guardians! Grandma was also completely awesome and sweet, so that was awesome. This book has strong moral values and is definitely trying to teach children the importance of taking care of animals and their habitats. I’ve been known to donate to places doing just that so I loved the moral. BUT that’s not the only things this book deals with. It also deals with friendship, family, love, forgiveness, what is means to be a sibling and more. It also deals with grief in an understandable way for children and the anger that come with grief.

I ABSOLUTELY WILL be buying copies for my friend’s with kids and the audiobook when it comes out for my son. I CAN’T wait for the next book personally! I’m excited to see what happens and how the characters will react to what they now know and what they feel they need to do. I really hope you give this book a chance because Winter is such a precious character and she now holds a little piece of my heart.
