Nevermoor and Wundersmith by Jessica Townsend

Hey guys!

So I read Nevermoor for the first time in 2018 and by the end of the year I had read it 6 times!! I LOVED IT. I had it on my kindle, then audiobook. (It’s currently on sale in hardback for 8.99)

I absolutely fell in love with the world of nevermoor. It’s like reading Harry Potter or Percy Jackson for the first time all over again. It was like returning home after a loooong trip. I feel like I’m IN Nevermoor and I am Mog.

So here’s the blurb for you

Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she’s blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks–and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday.

But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor.
It’s then that Morrigan discovers Jupiter has chosen her to contend for a place in the city’s most prestigious organization: the Wundrous Society. In order to join, she must compete in four difficult and dangerous trials against hundreds of other children, each boasting an extraordinary talent that sets them apart–an extraordinary talent that Morrigan insists she does not have. To stay in the safety of Nevermoor for good, Morrigan will need to find a way to pass the tests–or she’ll have to leave the city to confront her deadly fate.”
This is a tale of a little girl who is nothing to no-one and has to learn that she is more than she ever thought even remotely possible. I mean she was supposed to die and now, she has to figure it all out.
It’s unique, intriguing and utterly beautiful. The characters are rich, interesting and well written. I can see them all in my head now. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves middle grades, or to read to your kids. I’m not going to talk about the plot because I feel like you should go in blind. But I loved every minute of this twisty turny tale of Morrigan Crow and how she jumps into life for the first time.
Book two is Wundersmith and it got me out of an almost 3 month reading/life slump.
More of the fantastic characters I grew to love and a few new ones that I had to figure out. Mog now has her answer as to what her knack is and she has to navigate where that leads her.
I adore this series. I want book 3.
My husband had gotten me a new kindle and my friend sent me Wundersmith and I just ate it up. Then a few days later I got the hardback copies of both books in the mail from another friend to share them with my son! So now I’m needing the UK versions. So I have them in physical copy, kindle and audio, but I need more. I am so ready to share these with you! They are such little gems in a coal mine. I can’t get enough of them. I am so excited to see where our little characters go on their next set of adventures.
Seriously guys, go buy them so you can love them just as much as I do!!
Happy reading- Bookish Mom

  1. I need to read this book asap. I keep hearing how good it is and you’re review is motivating me even more. I see you’re with this book like I am with Vicious. If it wasn’t because I’m trying to stick to books I haven’t heard before I probably would reread it every month. I also, like you with Nevermoor, I need every version existing of Vicious

    1. Girl I have signed and personalized copies of vicious and vengeful. Lol VE is a sweetheart! I’ve met her twice now! These books are amazing!! They kinda feel like home. After a hard day I return to them and read them again and again. I even turn them on audible when i’m struggling to sleep and they help me relax enough to rest. Can’t get enough of them!

      1. The envy is real. I have signed copy of Vicious but I would love to meet her. Sadly, authors never come here so meeting her is very unlikely

      2. Aw man!! Yea I haven’t heard of any going there!! I am lucky i’m close to the city here because NOBODY came near me in other places I’ve lived. I met my first author two years ago. Now I’ve met a bunch of authors! I’m going to hopefully meet Roshani Chokshi soon as well because she’s coming this way soon!

      3. That’s amazing. The only I met are small independent Puerto Rican authors that currently live in PR and that’s ’cause they either come to my class or are the one giving me class.

      4. Well, yeah except that I didn’t know who they were and hadn’t read any of their work until that moment but yeah. Me too. I really want to meet V.E. Schwab and Richelle Mead. Fingers crossed.
