I was fortunate enough to have a friend who went to a book con and she got this ARC. Well she’s not huge into fantasy so she gave it to me and I’m so glad she did. I finished this book in one sitting. ONE. I COULD NOT STOP READING.
Here’s the blurb
“It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.”
Sound good? This is definitely a retelling of beauty and the beast and if you are like me you may worry it’s like every other version out there. Well, this book surprised me. YES you know its beauty and the beast BUT it has some new elements in it that are really unique and interesting.
Firstly the main character Harper is a TOTAL BADASS! Cerebral palsy has NOTHING on this girl’s guts and power. I mean I LOVE HER. She is so powerful and so ready to kick the world in the face and I am ALL FOR IT.
The other characters are just as well written and I loved them all. I really felt like I was getting to know them.
I love that they don’t give harper one clear choice as to what she needs to do. I loved Rhen and Grey and their own places in the story. I was dragged into this book and I did NOT want to be let go.
I loved the ending and how I wanted more but I was also so happy it didn’t end like every other version of beauty and the beast.
I basically just DEVOURED THIS BOOK and I want more immediately.
Book # 2 just got it’s title released today and I am so READY!! I NEED IT!!! GUYS I NEED IT AND BOOK 1 HASN’T EVEN RELEASED YET!!!!
